Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review :- Price, Camera, Design

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review is now available with durable design, S Pen waterproof support and much improved performance. We no longer recommend Galaxy Z Fold 2. See our review of Galaxy Z Fold 3 for our decision.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a much better quantum leap than the original Fold. And it needs to be at a higher price. The front screen is too big, 5G is standard, and the unpleasant note inside is no longer available. Also, this wrap lasts longer than the first Fold.

Samsung has developed new features to make this tablet hybrid more versatile, thanks to the new Flex Mode. Also, multitasking is best for using up to three applications at a time, and a few applications have dupt window views for advanced productivity.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 cameras are not as advanced as the one you will find in the Galaxy S21 Ultra (especially the zoom) and the design is very large. Also, Samsung is reportedly preparing the Galaxy Z Fold 3 for launch in August, a sequel that may offer S Pen support and other upgrades.

But if you are in the folding phone market right now, the Z Fold 2 does an excellent job of justifying Samsung’s high price. No wonder we named this phone as the best folding phone at Tom’s Guide Awards 2021 for phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review: Price and availability

The release date of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 was September 18, 2020. Available for sale by multiple network companies and unlocked.

When it released the Galaxy Z Fold 2 review it cost $ 1,999 with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. Note that the microSD card slot is not installed and no other capabilities are available. These days, after a $ 200 price cut, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 sells for $ 1,799. (That could be a sign that Samsung wants to release stock before the expected launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 later this year.)

To set the price of Z Fold 2 in context, Microsoft charges $ 1,400 for its Surface Duo phone. To see how similar the two folding devices look, check out our Microsoft Surface Duo competing with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review face to face.

If you are looking for deals on Galaxy Z Fold 2, the phone has been discounted for $ 999. So it can pay to look at sales on this folding phone. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is available to all major carrier companies, including AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile (Sprint), and is unlocked.

Samsung offers the Galaxy Z Premier Service Z Fold 2, which includes much-needed concierge support from dedicated professionals. In addition, owners of Z Fold 2 can obtain a Founders Card membership, access to prepared meals at the Michelin star restaurant and access to various golf clubs.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review: Design and durability

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 quickly creates a better image than the Galaxy Fold because of its large external display. You no longer feel like you are using Android with a slit, and that is because the cover screen has grown from 4.6 inches to 6.2 inches.

The internal display is also 7.6 inches larger on the Galaxy Z Fold 2, compared to 7.3 inches on the previous model. Even better, the bad note on the big screen is gone, and is replaced by a photo camera you took.

Samsung also made several Galaxy Z Fold 2 enhancements to improve durability and usability. These include a powerful new Ultra Thin Glass display, designed to give a better touch screen experience than a plastic screen Fold, and a Hideaway hinge that uses sweeping technology to prevent dust and dirt from entering the phone.

In a third-party trial conducted by YouTuber Jerry Rig Everything, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 review survived a dumping of debris, suggesting that the new hinge works better than the original model.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review: Display

Similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 screen uses a CAM method that allows you to place the screen in multiple locations. And while there is still a gap between the two sides of the phone when closed, it is smaller than before.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes in two colors: Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. But you will be able to add brightness in the form of four hook color options when ordering through Samsung.com. Options include Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, Metallic Red and Metallic Blue.

Measuring 6.2 x 2.6 x 0.66 inches when closed and 6.2 x 5 x 0.27 inches when turned on, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is shorter but wider than its predecessor. It is also difficult, as the Z Fold 2 weighs 9.9 ounces, compared to 9.48 ounces in the original model. I felt depressed after using the phone for a few minutes and texting.

Another bummer: The Galaxy Z Fold 2 does not provide water resistance, so you cannot make it wet as you would with other mobile phones.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 review: Software and Flex Mode

One of the complaints we had about the Galaxy Fold was that many apps just felt like exploding phone apps in tablet mode. But Samsung is dealing with this feature with the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

For example, in Gmail I was able to see my messages on the left and the subject of the emails on the right. And in Slack my contacts were left and messages on the right. You need to save the Galaxy Z Fold 2 review display mode in landscape mode to see these changes, but it makes a huge difference in production. It also makes the Galaxy Z Fold 2 feel like a laptop. Samsung also offers pre-viewing visuals at Microsoft Office and YouTube.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 Flex Mode gives this folding phone a lot of flexibility. The idea is that you can have controls or settings on one side of the display and content on the other high productivity.

I really enjoyed using the Google Duo in Flex Mode, as it allows you to put your phone down in a laptop-like mode and have a video call with someone else without holding the device. It’s something I immediately wished my iPhone could do.

Samsung says Flex Mode is supported by several Samsung applications, including Camera, Video Call, Gallery, Video Player, Clock and Calendar. Google also supports Flex Mode with YouTube and Google Duo. Samsung is collaborating with third-party engineers to develop advanced Flex Mode applications.

Another important upgrade for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 review is to perform multiple functions. With the advanced Multi-Active Window feature, you can open up to three apps at a time and you can quickly create a pre-installed so-called Pairing App that starts with just a tap.

I tried this with Slack, Twitter, Spotify and YouTube, Photos and Messages, and it was really cool to launch three apps at once. You can also quickly rearrange the layout by tapping or dragging the app into a single window. to another.

Even when cool, you can drag and drop content from one window to another. I had no problem dropping an image from the Gallery app into an outgoing message. However, it did not work with the Google Photos app. Most Samsung apps support drag and drop, as do Microsoft 365, Gmail, Chrome and Google Maps.

Samsung’s continuous feature is also available from the original Galaxy Fold. The idea is that you can start the app on the cover display, open the main display and continue where you left off. This worked on most apps, but the Sky Force 2 game forced me to restart the app as I moved to a larger canvas.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 review: battery life and charging

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 holds a 4,500 mAh battery, which should be able to consume you throughout the day. The Galaxy Fold had a slightly smaller 4,380 mAh, so this is a step up.

In our battery test, which included continuous web usage at 150 nits, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 lasted 10 hours and 10 minutes in a 60Hz display setting. That is not enough to make our list of the best battery life of the phone, where mobile phones last longer than 11 hours. But considering the Z Fold 2 display size that is a very good tolerance.

As expected, the battery life of the Z Fold 2 display is set at 120Hz (flexible), with the phone lasting 9 hours and 5 minutes.

Undoubtedly, the battery life in the Z Fold 2 is very strong. I started using the phone at 10 a.m. and after a day of heavy use it had about 18% juice left at 10 p.m.

Z Fold 2 supports 25W fast charging, as well as Power Share wireless fast charging and charging. But we did not see the best results in our tests. After 30 minutes Z Fold 2 was 46% and we could expect 50%. By comparison, the Note 20 Ultra hit 56% at the same time.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 cameras

It is strange to say that, but the $ 2,000 Galaxy Z Fold 2 represents a drop in the $ 1,300 Galaxy Note 20 when it comes to cameras. You don’t get the 108MP main sensor, 5x optical zoom or 50x Space Zoom, but you do get three capable shooters that you can use in a variety of ways.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a 12MP wide angle camera, a 12MP wide angle camera with 123-degree viewing angle and a 12MP phone lens with 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.

The fun really starts with the camera features that are different from the Galaxy Z Fold 2 review . For example, Dual Batch allows viewers to see what they will look like using the front display while shooting. You can also take high quality photos with the rear cameras.

All you have to do is heat the camera on the cover display and press the button in the top right corner, then Z Fold 2 will invite you to unlock the device and you will see a live preview.

Another advantage: you can support the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in a way that looks like a laptop and will keep your theme focused when you shoot a video using a feature called Auto framing. Thanks to Flex Mode, you can also update the latest images in the lower part of the screen while saving live preview in the upper part.

The Z Fold 2 camera did a great job of shooting next to these yellow and purple flowers. You can make beautiful details on the leaves and even beautiful drops of water when you zoom in.

I also took the photo you took using the 12MP rear camera and the Z Fold 2 cover screen as a viewer. The blue on my shirt is bright, and the surrounding trees and grass look bright. You can’t do this on an iPhone.

As expected, the 10x digital zoom seemed disappointing compared to the powerful Space Zoom on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. As we enter a tree and hang flower baskets, there is an equal amount of grain. It really does pass, though.

Android 12 review: The biggest changes in years

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review: Performance

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 plays with the Snapdragon 865 Plus processor as well as 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage (UFS3.1). So we can expect the same performance of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

In Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 scored 3,193 points in the mult-core segment. The Note 20 Ultra with the same chip got more than 3,294 while the Asus ROG Phone 3 hit 3,393. The iPhone 11 Pro was very fast at 3,500.

In a GFXBench photo test, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 review found 1,461 frames on the off-screen Aztec Ruins (High Tier), compared to 1,455 Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and 1,657 iPhone 11 Pro frames.

All in all, the Z Fold 2 offers smooth performance, but I’ve seen minor software bugs sometimes. YouTube app view did not change I changed screen modes at once, but restarting the app solved the problem.

In terms of 5G, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz flavors, so you should have no problems logging into 5G networks where available. I have not seen the best results in central New Jersey. On the AT&T network the download speed of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 reached only 22 Mbps, but on the T-Mobile it was much higher by 122 Mbps in the same area.

Because Z Fold 2 also supports Ultra Wide Band technology, you can use Samsung’s proximity sharing features to quickly share files with other compatible devices, including only the Note 20 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 review: Verdict

Note that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is rumored to be launching this summer. It is expected to include a faster processor, S Pen support and possibly a less efficient camera, among other improvements. So you will probably want to stop until mid-August until you make a move.

All in all, though, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a prime example of a company that listens to its customers and delivers the various improvements they have requested. Even with its reduced price of $ 1,799, this is still a great phone for beginners. At least Z Fold 2 looks very low as a prototype and is similar to an active product.

The front-facing display of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 alone is a major improvement. I also love the Flex Mode and the flexibility that this phone has to offer. Being able to support the device at various angles really makes Z Fold 2 feel like a new type of device. And while Mult-Active window multitasking requires a learning curve, it increases productivity.

If you are looking for a more powerful phone with better cameras, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a better option, but Apple has almost nothing new in its list to pick up the Z Fold 2. The iPhone Flip could be on its way. sometimes, but we doubt it will be any time soon.

All in all, I was really impressed with what Samsung has achieved with the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This is obviously the best folding phone with a sign of good things to come in the segment.
